On January 24, the PAC hosted our first ever Twitter chat. We invited the whole ImproveCareNow community, as well as our Social Media followers to join us for an hour so we could chat about Surgery & IBD. In case you missed it, here are some event highlights.

We are so thankful to have been joined by Dr. Ben Gold (a pediatric GI at CHOA GI Care for Kids) and Dr. Samir Gadepalli (a pediatric surgeon at the University of Michigan) our featured guest participants. They took some time out of their busy schedules to chat with us, and answer questions.

The PAC is also extremely grateful for our excellent host, Shawn, who made sure the chat went smoothly while sharing her story and experiences with participants! And to the many people who worked behind the scenes to make the chat a reality: Michelle, Sarah, Mary, Sarah, PAC members…the list goes on! And, of course, thank you to every person who joined us!

Here’s what we chatted about:

  • Is surgery necessary for all IBD patients?
  • How do you know when you need to have surgery?
  • What are the options for patients, who have Crohn's disease, who are looking to do surgery?
  • What are the options for patients, who have ulcerative colitis, who are looking to do surgery?
  • .@SamirGadepalli, what are some of the risks involved with having surgery?
  • .@BenjamminGold, do patients reach remission once they have surgery?
  • .@SamirGadepalli, what kind of symptoms can patients expect after surgery?
  • How is life going to be after surgery?
  • Will surgery get rid of my IBD for good?

Here’s a selection of the top tweets from the chat:

We are planning another chat in the future. We’ll announce it on social media – so be sure to follow @icnpatients and @improvecarenow. You can also bookmark the ImproveCareNow Events page on their website.
