My name is Maria and I live in Orlando, FL. In 2004, our family received the devastating news that our oldest daughter had Type 1 Juvenile Diabetes. I would have never imagined that a few years later in 2013, we would find ourselves confronted with yet another life altering diagnosis.

In 2013, our youngest was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease, Celiac Disease and Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis. She was just six years old. It wasn’t long after we transferred her care to Nemours Children’s Hospital in Orlando that we found hope when our GI physician informed me about ImproveCareNow and the Parent Working Group (PWG).

After meeting with our IBD program medical director, I agreed to become the lead parent advocate at our center. Joining ImproveCareNow and the PWG is the BEST decision I ever made! Because of our active and ongoing collaboration between our primary physician, the whole IBD care team, and ImproveCareNow and the PWG, our daughter is currently doing very well!

We are blessed to be a part of this incredible network, and I look forward to my new role as the PWG Communications Lead.
