My name is Missy and I am a new member of the ImproveCareNow Board of Directors. When my son was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease in the fall of 2016, one of the handouts I received from our care team at Nemours Jacksonville was a flyer about ImproveCareNow (ICN). That night I signed up for the Parent Working Group and the ICN newsletter.
I didn’t know enough to have expectations about ICN, but I was grateful that a network of support existed. I was thrilled to learn that ICN was involved in research and that we could participate. The idea that this vast network of care providers, parents, and patients could teach and learn from each other, thereby raising the quality of care for all, made me grateful for those who had created ImproveCareNow.
Ben’s treatment plan has been successful; along with the medicines he takes, he has followed the Specific Carbohydrate Diet since January of 2017. He has started a blog about his journey with Crohn’s and being on the SCD; it is called Own Crohn’s, and he hopes to encourage other teens by sharing his experiences.
ImproveCareNow has been a partner and a support to us and I am honored to serve with you all in helping children with IBD and their families.
