In honor of Feeding Tube Awareness Week (February 8-12, 2021), Makenna shared a little about her experience with a feeding tube and how she views it in a positive light!

Feeding tubes aren’t a life sentence. They make us fabulous and strong. A feeding tube makes us be able to fight the battle we need to fight.

I have had a feeding tube since the age of five and it has helped me be able to feel more like myself. It gave me the energy to go school, go out with friends, and my favorite: be able to do things with my family. Life with a feeding tube might not always feel glamorous but it is a lifesaving medical device that makes me stronger and just be able to live.

One way you can support your friends and family who live with IBD is by learning more about their experiences. Download, read and share Patient Perspectives: Nutrition & IBD to learn about using nutritional therapies, such as TPN, special diets, nutritional drinks, and NG tubes/tube feeding.
