We are excited to be hosting our Fall 2022 Community Conference in Dallas, TX later this month. This will be our first in-person event since moving to a Live Online format in Spring 2020 in response to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. September 21-23 we look forward to engaging with healthcare providers, patients and parents from across ImproveCareNow to all teach and all learn about recent results in our pediatric IBD research and improvement efforts. Learner Objectives for our Fall 2022 Community Conference include

  • Acquire best practices demonstrated through ImproveCareNow quality improvement, research, clinical practice, and community engagement skills.
  • Describe your impact on patient care and within the ImproveCareNow community.
  • Develop connections and relationships with clinicians, patients, parents, and trusted partners to work together in new ways to benefit the IBD community.
  • Examine how you might support the advancement of the strategic priorities focused on outcomes, equity, sustainability, engagement, and technology.

Patients and caregivers are valued partners in our conferences

We are thrilled that patients and parents continue to be co-designers and active contributors to our ICN Community Conferences. Here are  sessions that patient and parent partners are directly involved in:

💙 Ignite Talks 🔥 with Mahalakshmi Parakala and Ildiko Mehes

💚 Supporting the Whole Person in Pediatric IBD Care: Navigating Being a 'Good' Patient and Experiences of Grief in Chronic Illness

💙 Achieving Equity in Patient Engagement

💚 Pediatric Patient Autonomy

💙 An Evolving Journey at Levine Children's Hospital: Generating Social Engagement and Support

💚 Let's Get Personal: Teaming Up to Address Important Topics in Adolescent and Young Adult Health

💙 Increasing Diversity in Pediatric IBD Clinical Trials: An Opportunity

💚 Forging Ahead: Updates from the ICN DEI Committee (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Plenary)

💙 The Patient Advisory Council (PAC): Where We Have Been and Where We Are Going (Engagement Plenary)

💚 Treat to Target (T2T): A New Era of IBD Care

A new feature you may notice on the Fall 2022 Community Conference agenda is the addition of blue ICN Aims listed above session titles. In 2021, Executive Leadership and key members of the ImproveCareNow network identified five key strategic domain goals for the network to work on together over the next three years: Outcomes; Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion or “DEI”; Sustainability; Engagement; Technology.

Please note that COVID-19 social distancing precautions are in place for this in-person conference.

As you consider what topics you're most excited to learn more about and think about the insights you want to discuss with and share with others in the IBD community, we encourage you to follow @improvecarenow and @icnpatients on Twitter to take part in the conversation no matter where you are!

Our Fall 2022 Community Conference hashtag - #ICNCC22F - was created via Symplur and the Healthcare Hashtag Project, which is aimed at connecting the dots in healthcare social media. By including #ICNCC22F in posts and tweets from and about the conference we can generate and share learning and ideas, make connections with our colleagues and community, and spread awareness of ImproveCareNow and IBD.

For those who cannot join us in Dallas this September, be sure to block your calendar on April 27 & 28, 2023 for our Spring 2023 Live Online Community Conference where we will meet virtually.

💚💙

ImproveCareNow is made up of more than 100 care centers and has a presence on three continents, with 90% of the highest ranked pediatric gastroenterology programs in the U.S., including all ten of the U.S. News and World Reports 2022/2023 Honor Roll Children’s Hospitals as members. With 950 pediatric gastroenterologists and 30,000 IBD patients, ImproveCareNow reaches approximately 55% of IBD patients in the U.S. cared for by pediatric gastroenterologists. ImproveCareNow Community Conferences present the ideal opportunity to engage with these committed healthcare providers, patients and parents, and to learn about recent results in our research and improvement efforts.
Put in your time and energy on behalf of someone else. No effort is too small, because everything we do in ImproveCareNow is magnified by the efforts of thousands of other improvers, and together we bring about a better quality of life for many. Here are some actions you can take, or invite others to take:
  • Invite someone to stay #InTheLOOP with IBD stories on the ICN blog "Sharing stories and experiences is affirming and validating. Our stories reach others and they help, which is the most wonderful part of being involved with ImproveCareNow." - Quint
  • Invite a patient (14+) to join the Patient Advisory Council - "Being part of the PAC helps me remember that I'm not alone in this journey." - Rhea
  • Invite a parent or family member of a child with IBD to join the Parent/Family Advisory Council - "I was astounded by the instant bond established with parents I had never met. Every conversation provided me with strength. It ignited another purpose in my life." - Maria
  • Invite someone to download free, co-produced IBD resources - "Physical resources provide patients with actions that we can take toward bettering our quality of life, as well as our current and future care." - Quint
  • Invite someone to Join Our CIRCLE - "Resources we found in CIRCLE eNews do not just focus on physical health, but also on critical areas like social-emotional needs, nutrition, back-to-school planning and mindfulness. These are valuable tools for my son to remain healthy." - Lisa
